Youth Mentor - Before / After School Enrichment
About The Position
The Youth Mentor supports before- and after-school enrichment for the 2026–2027 school year. The role is for an experienced professional who is passionate about helping children learn, supporting their development, connecting with the community, and creating a fun and diverse environment. The specific childcare site will be determined during the interview. The mentor plans and implements developmentally appropriate, child-centered curriculum; supports children’s self-esteem and learning; communicates with parents and guardians; maintains required records and classroom materials; collaborates with the team; and supports the YMCA’s Annual Campaign.
Requirements
- Degree from an accredited college or university in an education- or human services-related field.
- At least 2 years of verified child care experience (2,500 hours).
- Passion for working with children in a fun, diverse environment.
- Ability to pass all relevant clearances and keep trainings up to date.
Responsibilities
- Find engaging ways to help children learn while maintaining environments that build children’s self-esteem.
- Plan and implement curriculum, ensuring child-centered and developmentally appropriate learning experiences in classrooms.
- Use positive reinforcement for behavioral management.
- Conduct and record weekly child observations, including observations related to behavior concerns or development that may require early intervention with parents or guardians.
- Communicate with parents and guardians patiently, kindly, effectively, and in a timely manner about children’s program experiences and progress, both verbally and in writing, while maintaining confidentiality and sensitivity.
- Maintain accurate daily attendance records, emergency contact binders, and allergy reports.
- Complete compliant timesheets, incident reports, weekly reports, and child observation reports.
- Keep centers organized and stocked with quality learning materials in labeled containers associated with appropriate learning centers.
- Attend monthly team-planning meetings or additional meetings as needed.
- Actively campaign for the Annual Campaign and work to develop donors and volunteers.
