About The Position

The Youth Mentor supports before- and after-school enrichment for the 2026–2027 school year. The specific childcare site will be determined during the interview. The role focuses on creating engaging, child-centered learning experiences, supporting children’s development and self-esteem, communicating with families, maintaining program records and learning spaces, and contributing to the YMCA community.

Requirements

• Degree from an accredited college or university in an education- or human-services-related field.
• At least 2 years of verified childcare experience (2,500 hours).
• Passion for working with children in a fun, diverse environment.
• Ability to pass all relevant clearances and keep trainings up to date.

Responsibilities

• Find engaging ways to help children learn while maintaining environments that build their self-esteem.
• Plan and implement curriculum, ensuring classroom learning experiences are child-centered and developmentally appropriate; use positive reinforcement for behavioral management.
• Conduct and record weekly child observations, including observations related to behavior or development that may require early intervention with parents or guardians.
• Communicate patiently, kindly, effectively, and promptly with parents and guardians about children’s program experiences and progress, both verbally and in writing, while maintaining confidentiality and sensitivity.
• Maintain daily attendance records, emergency contact binders, allergy reports, timesheets, incident reports, weekly reports, and child observation reports accurately and in compliance with requirements.
• Maintain centers with quality learning materials, organized in labeled containers associated with appropriate learning centers.
• Attend monthly team-planning meetings or additional meetings as needed.
• Actively campaign for the Annual Campaign and work to develop donors and volunteers.
