Youth Mentor - Before / After School Enrichment
About The Position
The Youth Mentor supports before- and after-school enrichment programming for the 2026–2027 school year. The specific childcare site will be determined during the interview. The role involves planning and implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum, creating engaging learning experiences, supporting children’s self-esteem and behavior, communicating with families, maintaining program records and classroom materials, and contributing to YMCA community fundraising and volunteer development. The YMCA offers team support, opportunities to learn and grow, and the chance to contribute to a nonprofit organization focused on strengthening the community.
Requirements
- Degree from an accredited college or university in an education- or human-services-related field.
- At least 2 years of verified childcare experience (2,500 hours).
- Passion for working with children in a fun, diverse environment.
- Ability to pass all relevant clearances and keep trainings up to date.
Responsibilities
- Find engaging ways to help children learn while maintaining environments that build their self-esteem.
- Plan and implement curriculum, ensuring child-centered and developmentally appropriate learning experiences throughout classrooms.
- Use positive reinforcement for behavioral management.
- Conduct and record weekly child observations, including observations related to behavior concerns or development that may require early intervention with parents or guardians.
- Communicate patiently, kindly, effectively, and promptly with parents and guardians about children’s program experiences and progress, both verbally and in writing, while maintaining confidentiality and sensitivity.
- Maintain accurate daily attendance records, emergency contact binders, allergy reports, timesheets, incident reports, weekly reports, and child observation reports.
- Keep centers supplied with quality learning materials and organize materials in labeled containers associated with the appropriate learning center.
- Attend monthly team-planning meetings, or more often as needed.
- Actively campaign for the Annual Campaign and work to develop donors and volunteers.
