Vehicle Condition Inspector

About The Position

ACV Auctions is seeking an enthusiastic Inspector with automotive knowledge to join its growing company. Inspectors represent the company to customers and explain vehicle condition clearly. They are expected to be meticulous, energetic, and committed to delivering trust, transparency, credibility, and customer service. Working with a Territory Manager and other Inspectors, the role involves inspecting vehicles at dealerships, auctions, and off-lease locations; preparing vehicle-condition reports and repair or replacement cost estimates; photographing and listing vehicles on ACV Auctions’ digital platform; and supporting customer satisfaction and sales. The work includes travel to dealerships and homes and may require extended periods outdoors and manual labor.

Requirements

At least 1 year of experience in the automobile field, including knowledge of body, paint, and mechanical repair, with a customer-service background.
Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
Ability to work outdoors in the elements for extended periods.
Problem-solving aptitude, resourcefulness, and innovative approaches to challenges.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
Excellent communication skills and ability to understand customer needs and expectations.
Valid driver’s license and use of a validly registered and insured motor vehicle.
Knowledge of system capabilities, relevant software packages, and web-based applications.
Ability to perform manual labor, including standing for extended periods, lifting 25 pounds or more, bending, and squatting.
Ability to drive both manual and automatic transmission vehicles.
Vision sufficient to identify small defects around and underneath vehicles.

Responsibilities

Support efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience.
Conduct vehicle inspections at dealerships, auctions, and off-lease locations to identify damage, missing parts, and mechanical problems.
Prepare and submit vehicle-condition reports, repair or replacement cost estimates, and related documentation.
Help the sales team upsell or cross-sell services and products.
Communicate regularly with dealers to support customer satisfaction and build strong relationships.
Travel to dealerships and homes to inspect vehicles, write condition reports, and list vehicles for sale on the auction platform.
Take overall and damage photographs, match them to the vehicle, and upload them to the image server using a company-issued smartphone.
List inspected wholesale vehicles on the ACV Auctions platform for bidding and purchasing.
Sign up independent dealerships as buyers on ACV Auctions’ digital platform.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
