About The Position

The Used Firearms Team Lead operates the used firearms business within the store, overseeing daily operations across buying, selling, and firearms customer service. The role focuses on creating a fair-trade, customer-satisfaction-oriented sales culture and achieving monthly sales goals through buying, selling, and trading pre-owned firearms. The Team Lead evaluates and appraises used firearms, manages used firearm inventory, completes firearm transfer paperwork checks, maintains regulatory compliance, and supports merchandising and sales. The position also trains Outfitters, partners with internet and corporate merchandising teams, and provides customer service on the sales floor and by phone. Local travel may be required to purchase used firearms outside the store.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent experience.
2–4 years of experience.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Ability to safely handle firearms.
Knowledge of purchasing firearms through firearms-industry work or collecting firearms.
Good understanding of retail and knowledge of computers.
Background in current firearms models.
Ability to appraise used firearms and determine their marketable value.
Strong work ethic and ability to multitask.

Responsibilities

Evaluate and appraise used firearms using knowledge of fair market value, firearms identification, research, and negotiation; seek the highest margin on acquisitions.
Initiate all 4473 forms with customers and conduct final checks of applicable company, state, and federal forms before firearm transfers.
Maintain used firearm inventory through daily purchases and leads for collections outside the store, local auctions, estate sales, and other sources.
Comply with local, state, and federal firearms regulations as an employee of an ATF FFL-licensed dealer.
Conduct monthly ATF compliance audits and company-required audits.
Merchandise used firearms and proactively arrange merchandise.
Partner with the Internet Specialist to recommend firearms for online posting based on potential margin and speed of sale.
Communicate and collaborate with Regional Gun Library Managers and the corporate used firearm merchandising team.
Train and educate Outfitters on used firearm acquisition and disposal, sales trends, policy and procedure updates, negotiation, firearm valuation resources, and related topics.
Participate in ongoing product, shooting discipline, systems, compliance, and sales training.
Provide customer service on the sales floor and by phone, answer firearm questions, quote purchase and retail prices, and resolve customer issues using sound judgment.
Perform other duties as assigned.
