About The Position

Ryder is hiring a Class A CDL truck driver in Sarasota, Florida. The role pays $28.50 per hour, with weekly pay and paid training. The schedule is on call as needed, with a 6:00 PM start time; a full-time opportunity may be available based on seniority. Drivers deliver solo on local routes within 50 miles of Sarasota and return home daily. The equipment includes a day-cab tractor and 48-foot or 53-foot dry van trailers. Freight consists of donated goods and involves touch freight. Drivers must be able to operate a manual transmission. Ryder provides training on required equipment, including a manual pallet jack, lift gate, and hand truck. Trucks are described as well-maintained and safe, 36 months or newer, with 24/7 roadside maintenance and fueling available at more than 800 nationwide maintenance locations.

Requirements

Be at least 21 years of age.
Pass a Ryder drug test.
Pass Ryder background and motor vehicle checks, including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last three years.
Pass a DOT physical.
Pass a Ryder road test.
Provide the appropriate CDL and endorsements for the position.
Have verifiable Class A experience in a tractor-trailer or comparable vehicle: 9 months within the past 3 years, or 2 years within the last 5 years, or 5 years within the last 10 years.
Be able to follow written and/or oral instructions.
Be able to read, interpret, and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, and/or procedures.
Be able to operate a manual transmission.

Responsibilities

Ensure compliance with applicable federal and/or state laws, regulations, and agency rules, standards, and guidelines.
Detect and eliminate or minimize safety hazards.
Maintain accurate records and logs.
Load and unload freight, or assist with loading and unloading when required by the customer.
Perform other duties as assigned.
