About The Position

Ryder is hiring a Class A CDL Truck Driver in Chicago, Illinois. This solo regional driving position delivers packaging material to Atlanta using a sleeper tractor and 53-foot dry van trailer. Freight is no-touch. Drivers are paid weekly, with advertised pay of $2,100 or more per week. Pay includes average solo mileage pay of $0.72 per mile, $18 per stop for an average of two stops per week, and $50 per night in per diem for five nights out per week. Paid training is provided. The schedule is Monday through Friday, with dispatch between 4:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m.

Ryder provides well-maintained trucks that are 36 months old or newer, 24/7 roadside maintenance, and fueling at more than 800 nationwide maintenance locations. The company describes the position as a company-driver role and offers support during the transition from owner-operator trucks. Drivers are responsible for safe, compliant driving and related duties, including maintaining records and logs and loading or unloading freight when required by the customer.

Requirements

• Be at least 21 years of age.
• Pass a Ryder drug test.
• Pass a Ryder background and motor vehicle check, including verification of drug and alcohol history from previous employers for the last three years.
• Pass a DOT physical.
• Pass a Ryder road test.
• Provide the appropriate CDL and endorsements for the position.
• Have Class A verifiable tractor-trailer or comparable-vehicle experience: 9 months within the past 3 years, or 2 years within the last 5 years, or 5 years within the last 10 years.
• Be able to follow written and/or oral instructions.
• Be able to read, interpret, and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, and/or procedures.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with applicable federal and/or state laws, regulations, agency rules, standards, and guidelines.
• Detect and eliminate or minimize safety hazards.
• Maintain accurate records and logs.
• Load or unload freight, or assist with loading or unloading, if required by the customer.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
