About The Position

This is a travel Registered Nurse assignment for a Medical Surgical unit in Carbondale, Illinois. The assignment is for 13 weeks, with a start date of 09/07/2026. The unit consists of 35 private patient rooms and two nurses stations. Each shift is supported by a shift supervisor and patient care technicians. The role involves delivering direct nursing care to adult inpatients, conducting assessments, monitoring vital signs, administering medications, collaborating with the care team, managing patient transitions, and adhering to all relevant standards.

Requirements

Current Illinois Registered Nurse license
CPR/BLS certification; ACLS required
Ability to work 12-hour shifts in a fast-paced unit with a 1:5–1:6 nurse-to-patient ratio on nights
Experience in acute care settings (medical-surgical or related) and comfort with unit variability due to bed availability
Eligible for travel assignment starting 09/07/2026 and able to meet the assignment duration and logistics

Responsibilities

Deliver direct nursing care to adult inpatients on a Med Surg unit with occasional surgical overlap
Conduct initial and ongoing assessments, monitor vital signs, identify and respond to patient changes, and implement care plans
Administer medications, therapies, and procedures per physician orders; document accurately in the electronic health record
Collaborate with the care team, including shift supervisor, patient care techs, and physicians, to prioritize patient needs and ensure safe, individualized care
Manage admission, transfer, and discharge processes as appropriate; participate in care coordination and patient education
Adhere to infection control, safety, and regulatory standards; advocate for patient comfort and safety at all times
