About The Position

This is a travel Registered Nurse position in Carbondale, IL, United States, focusing on a Med/Surg unit with a 25-bed capacity and a diverse patient population. Requirements

Stroke certification preferred; NHISS is required
Availability for three 12-hour night shifts per week, with every other weekend and every other holiday
Experience caring for stroke patients and post-operative care, including wounds, drains, chest tubes, and feeding tubes
Ability to work effectively in a hospital Med Surg setting and follow unit policies

Responsibilities

Provide direct nursing care on a 25-bed Med Surg unit, with a focus on stroke patients and post-operative care.
Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, administer medications, monitor vitals, and manage IV therapies.
Care for post-operative patients, including those with drains, chest tubes, feeding tubes, and wound care; manage heparin drips as ordered.
Monitor for altered mental status; implement CIWA protocols as indicated; manage acute kidney injury, dialysis needs, COPD exacerbations.
Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and other members of the care team; document all care and updates accurately; participate in rounds and family communication.
Maintain stroke protocol adherence and patient safety, adjusting care plans as condition changes; ensure appropriate prioritization under unit staffing.
