Transportation Logistics Specialist
About The Position
The Transportation Logistics Specialist supports the coordination and execution of freight and delivery activities. Reporting to the Transportation & Logistics Supervisor, the role involves planning shipments, tracking deliveries, managing documentation, and communicating with carriers and internal stakeholders. The Specialist works with the logistics team to support the timely and cost-effective movement of goods while maintaining compliance with transportation and safety standards. Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and a service-oriented mindset are important.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- 1–3 years of experience in a transportation, shipping, or logistics support role.
- Travel of 10–50%, depending on business needs.
- Typical working hours are between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday; work a sufficient schedule to meet the expectations of the role.
Nice To Haves
- Associate’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
- 2 or more years of experience in a transportation, shipping, or logistics support role.
- Experience using Transportation Management Systems (TMS) or ERP software.
- Knowledge of shipping documentation and freight terminology.
- Familiarity with DOT and safety regulations.
Responsibilities
- Support daily transportation operations, including load planning, scheduling, and shipment tracking.
- Communicate with carriers and vendors to confirm shipping arrangements and provide updates.
- Enter and maintain accurate shipment data in TMS or ERP systems.
- Prepare and process shipping documents, including bills of lading, manifests, and delivery receipts.
- Monitor shipments in transit and assist with resolving delays or exceptions.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and transportation and safety regulations.
- Coordinate with procurement, customer service, materials, and other internal departments to support timely deliveries.
- Assist in compiling reports and performance metrics.
- Identify and report process improvement or cost reduction opportunities.
- Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
