Transportation Logistics Specialist
About The Position
The Transportation Logistics Specialist supports the coordination and execution of freight and delivery activities. Reporting to the Transportation & Logistics Supervisor, this role is responsible for shipment planning, delivery tracking, documentation, and communication with carriers and internal stakeholders. The Specialist works with the logistics team to support the timely and cost-effective movement of goods while following compliance and safety standards. Attention to detail, organization, and a service-oriented mindset are important to keeping transportation operations running smoothly, safely, and on time. The position typically works Monday through Friday, with work hours between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. The schedule must be sufficient to meet the expectations of the role. Travel may be up to 10%, depending on business needs.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- 1–3 years of experience in a transportation, shipping, or logistics support role; 2+ years is preferred.
Nice To Haves
- Associate’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
- Experience using Transportation Management Systems (TMS) or ERP software.
- Knowledge of shipping documentation and freight terminology.
- Familiarity with DOT and safety regulations.
Responsibilities
- Support daily transportation operations, including load planning, scheduling, and shipment tracking.
- Communicate with carriers and vendors to confirm shipping arrangements and provide updates.
- Enter and maintain accurate shipment data in TMS or ERP systems.
- Prepare and process shipping documentation, such as bills of lading, manifests, and delivery receipts.
- Monitor shipments in transit and assist with resolving delays or exceptions.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and transportation and safety regulations.
- Coordinate with internal departments, including procurement, customer service, and materials, to support timely deliveries.
- Assist in compiling reports and performance metrics.
- Identify and report process improvement or cost reduction opportunities.
- Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
