Transportation Logistics Specialist
About The Position
The Transportation and Logistics Specialist supports the coordination and execution of freight and delivery activities. Reporting to the Transportation & Logistics Supervisor, the role involves planning shipments, tracking deliveries, managing documentation, and communicating with carriers and internal stakeholders. The Specialist works with the logistics team to support timely and cost-effective movement of goods while following compliance and safety standards. Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and a service-oriented mindset are important to ensure transportation operations run smoothly, safely, and on time. Typical work hours are between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The role may require travel up to 10%, depending on business needs, and a sufficient schedule to meet the expectations of the position. Other related duties may be assigned as required.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- 1–3 years of experience in a transportation, shipping, or logistics support role.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and a service-oriented mindset.
- Knowledge of shipping documentation and freight terminology.
Nice To Haves
- Associate’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
- 2+ years of experience in a transportation, shipping, or logistics support role.
- Experience using Transportation Management Systems (TMS) or ERP software.
- Familiarity with DOT and safety regulations.
Responsibilities
- Support daily transportation operations, including load planning, scheduling, and shipment tracking.
- Communicate with carriers and vendors to confirm shipping arrangements and provide updates.
- Enter and maintain accurate shipment data in TMS or ERP systems.
- Prepare and process shipping documentation, including bills of lading, manifests, and delivery receipts.
- Monitor shipments in transit and assist with resolving delays or exceptions.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements related to transportation and safety.
- Coordinate with internal departments such as procurement, customer service, and materials to support timely deliveries.
- Assist in compiling reports and performance metrics.
- Identify and report process-improvement or cost-reduction opportunities.
- Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
