About The Position

The Transportation Coordinator 2 coordinates activities of the senior leader’s office to support effective coordination and collaboration. Provides support to the (department) through collecting information, communicating with stakeholders, and gathering feedback from customers on the impact of the (department) work. Executes special projects that have significant operational or organizational impact. Supports administrative staff. This position also plays a key role in cultivating a culture of professionalism, accountability, and operational excellence across the transportation team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, required.
  • At least 7 years’ experience in school bus transportation services or district/central office of a large urban school district.
  • Work Leadership. Regularly provides project management or team leadership to a group of two or more employees. Directly manages and supervises Unit Leaders.
  • Work is substantially complex, varied and regularly requires the selection and application of technical and detailed guidelines. Independent judgment is required to identify, select, and apply the most appropriate methods as well as interpret precedent. Position regularly makes recommendations to management on areas of significance to the department. Supervision received typically consists of providing directions on the more complex projects and new job duties and priorities.
  • Compiles and organizes data and figures.
  • Decisions are made on both routine and non-routine matters with some latitude but are still subject to approval. Occasionally expect to recommend new solutions to problems and improve existing methods or generate new ideas.
  • Decisions have considerable impact on multiple divisions or the organization causing risks or improvements to relationships, significant efficiencies, or delays in operations, and/or significant financial gains or expenses. Errors are serious and difficult to discover, normally involve decisions not subject to detailed review and will result in excessive costs and/or significant project delays.
  • Collaborate and solve problems – works with others to resolve problems, clarify or interpret complex information/policies, and provide initial screening/negotiations without approval authority. Interactions are typically with customers, senior level professional staff, and managers.
  • Leads others in the resolution of highly sensitive and confidential issues on behalf of the department. Acts as a trusted advisor and becomes involved in the customer’s decision-making process including presenting alternatives, information, applying persuasion, and negotiation skills in the resolution of problems. Monitor customer service standards.
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment, which does not subject the employee to any hazardous or unpleasant elements.
  • Valid Texas driver’s license with applicable insurance coverage.
  • Standard office equipment, including personal computer and peripherals.
  • Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
  • Repetitive hand motions including frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching.
  • Ability to carry and/or lift less than 45 pounds.
  • Work with frequent interruptions, maintain emotional control under stress, fast-paced.

Nice To Haves

  • Current Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with daily terminal operations to ensure safe, efficient, and on-time student transportation, including routing, dispatching, and service delivery.
  • Manage end-to-end project implementation for transportation initiatives, including defining scope, establishing timelines, tracking milestones, and ensuring deliverables align with district goals.
  • Develop and maintain project plans, dashboards, and status reports to monitor performance, mitigate risks, and ensure accountability across operations and special projects.
  • Oversee, evaluate, and support coordinators and transportation personnel to maintain high service, safety, and compliance standards.
  • Manage substitute driver assignments to ensure adequate coverage for scheduled routes and unexpected absences.
  • Assist with bus routes, scheduling, and dispatch functions to optimize efficiency, coverage, and resource utilization.
  • Communicate with fleet management to ensure all vehicles are operational, properly maintained, and ready for daily service.
  • Facilitate compliance with operational procedures, including driver check-ins, pre- and post-trip inspections, on-time departures, mid-route verification, vehicle cleanliness, and proper parking protocols.
  • Support recruitment, training, and certification processes for transportation personnel to maintain a qualified and compliant workforce align with District policies and applicable Transportation regulations.
  • Serve as a liaison for school administrators, families, and stakeholders, addressing transportation concerns, resolving issues, and providing timely service updates.
  • Assist with investigating transportation incidents, accidents, and service complaints; ensure proper documentation and implement corrective actions with a strong focus on student safety.
  • Collect, analyze, and report on operational data, including performance metrics, staffing, and service outcomes, to support continuous improvement and decision-making.
  • Support the implementation processes relating to routing efficiency, fleet utilization, and overall service delivery.
  • Support satellite transportation sites to ensure consistency, compliance, and alignment with district standards and expectations when needed.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned, contributing to the overall effectiveness of transportation operations and a student-centered service model.
