About The Position

The Thrift Store Associate helps create a positive shopping and donation experience at The Salvation Army Albert Lea Thrift Store. Store revenue supports local Salvation Army programs and services. Associates process donated goods, stock merchandise, assist customers, and support efficient checkout operations. Associates are cross-trained in essential functions and may rotate tasks during a shift or focus on particular responsibilities as needed.

The position is on-site at 416 Bridge Ave, Albert Lea, MN 56007, and is scheduled for 25 hours per week. The hourly pay range is $11.68–$12. Employees are expected to support The Salvation Army's mission. The position has no supervisory or travel responsibilities.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Basic math skills.
• Pass background checks.
• Flexible interpersonal and communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
• High level of initiative and self-motivation.
• Ability to problem-solve, multitask, and prioritize.
• Ability to perform physical duties including mobility, bending, reaching, standing, and climbing.
• Ability to regularly lift 40 pounds and occasionally lift 60 pounds.
• Ability to communicate clearly with colleagues and customers.
• Agree to support The Salvation Army's mission as an employee.

Nice To Haves

• Customer service and/or retail experience.
• Previous experience handling cash.

Responsibilities

• Provide a welcoming and positive shopping and donation experience for customers and donors.
• Operate the cash register accurately, efficiently, and quickly.
• Sort, clean, process, hang, and organize merchandise.
• Stock and maintain sales floor merchandise to improve product visibility and support sales.
• Accept and process donations, assist donors with unloading items, and issue receipts.
• Perform light cleaning to maintain a tidy and organized store environment.
• Assist customers with loading purchases as needed.
• Perform additional duties, responsibilities, and tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
