About The Position

The Thrift Store Associate helps create a positive experience for customers and donors at The Salvation Army Albert Lea Thrift Store. The store’s revenue supports local Salvation Army Corps programs and services. Associates process donated goods, stock merchandise, assist customers with shopping, and help ensure efficient checkout operations. Employees are cross-trained in essential functions and may rotate among tasks or focus on specific responsibilities as needed. This is an on-site role and is not eligible for a remote-friendly work environment. The position has no supervisory responsibilities and no travel requirements. Employees are expected to support The Salvation Army’s mission.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Basic math skills.
• Pass required background checks.
• Flexible interpersonal and communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
• High level of initiative and self-motivation.
• Ability to problem-solve, multitask, and prioritize.
• Ability to perform the physical aspects of the position, including mobility, bending, reaching, standing, and climbing.
• Ability to regularly lift 40 pounds and occasionally lift 60 pounds.
• Ability to communicate clearly with colleagues and customers.
• Agree to support The Salvation Army’s mission as an employee.

Nice To Haves

• Customer service and/or retail experience.
• Previous experience handling cash.

Responsibilities

• Provide a welcoming and positive shopping and donation experience for customers and donors.
• Operate the cash register accurately, efficiently, and quickly.
• Sort, clean, process, hang, and organize merchandise.
• Stock and maintain sales-floor merchandise to enhance product visibility and support sales.
• Accept and process donations, assist donors with unloading items, and issue receipts.
• Perform light cleaning to maintain a tidy and organized store environment.
• Assist customers with loading purchases as needed.
• Perform additional duties, responsibilities, and tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
