About The Position

Reporting to the Director of Student Accessibility Services, the Testing Coordinator plays a central role in making sure students with approved accommodations receive equitable, well-organized testing support. The Testing Coordinator oversees the planning, scheduling, and administration of accommodated exams for students registered with Student Accessibility Services. The role ensures that testing accommodations are implemented accurately, confidentially, and in alignment with university policies and federal disability laws. The coordinator serves as a key liaison among students, faculty, and staff to support an accessible and inclusive academic environment. The SAS is housed within the Department of Student Wellness at St. John’s University. The Department of Student Wellness engages in an integrated approach to wellness that fosters collaboration between Student Health Services, Wellness Education and Prevention, Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), Student Accessibility Services (SAS), Campus Recreation, and Sexual Violence Outreach, Awareness, and Response (SOAR).

Requirements

Demonstrate subject matter expertise with assistive technology and Section 504 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and with other federal and state regulations concerning students with disabilities especially as it pertains to the implementation of testing accommodations.
Keen attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in scheduling, documentation, and exam handling.
Ability to solve problems and navigate last-minute changes, conflicts, or unexpected testing needs.
Understands the importance of access and inclusion in academic settings.
Manages high-volume testing periods with professionalism.
Works closely with faculty, students, and colleagues across campus.
Bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, counseling, disability services, or a related field.
Experience working in higher education, disability services, testing centers, or student support roles.
Experience administering exams or coordinating academic accommodations
Knowledge of accessible technology (screen readers, speech-to-text tools, alternative formats).
Supervisory experience with student workers or proctors.
Ability to work effectively with diverse populations, including students with disabilities, faculty, and staff,
Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
Familiarity with disability law (ADA, Section 504) and accommodation practices.
Comfort with technology, including scheduling systems, learning management systems, and assistive technology tools.

Responsibilities

Manage daily testing operations including scheduling, arranging proctors, and coordinating exams for students receiving accommodations such as extended time, reduced-distraction environments, assistive technology, or alternative formats.
Coordinate the use of alternative testing formats including readers, scribes, assistive technology, and accessible materials as needed.
Support students by providing clear instructions, maintaining a welcoming testing environment, and addressing questions related to testing procedures and accommodations.
Hire, onboard and supervise part-time testing proctors and student workers.
Communicate regularly with faculty to request exam materials, clarify testing instructions, confirm accommodation needs, and ensure timely return of completed exams.
Maintain secure exam handling by implementing a system to track receipt, storage, administration, and return of all exam materials while upholding strict confidentiality.
Maintain detailed records of exams administered, incidents, and accommodation usage; prepare reports for departmental assessment.
Implement testing accommodations approved by Student Accessibility Services staff, ensuring accommodations such as extended time, reduced-distraction environments, assistive technology, readers, or scribes are administered accurately.
Support broader disability services initiatives, participate in staff meetings, and assist during peak accommodation periods.
