Technical Program Manager, Platform Services

Motive•San Francisco, CA
•$200,000 - $245,000

About The Position

Motive is hiring a Technical Program Manager to lead high-impact, cross-cutting technical programs across its Platform Services Organization and broader product and engineering organization. Platform Services provides foundational infrastructure, developer ecosystem tooling, cloud operations, SRE reliability, data pipelines, and core services. The role translates organizational priorities into executable roadmaps, strengthens platform foundations, and improves how engineering teams deliver at scale. Reporting directly to the VP of Platform Services Engineering, the Technical Program Manager will work across engineering teams and partner functions to drive planning, execution, risk management, and operations. The role focuses on aligning teams around measurable outcomes, coordinating interdependent roadmaps, supporting platform adoption, unblocking architectural shifts, and aligning multi-team investments. It is a strategic, cross-functional orchestration role rather than day-to-day sprint-board administration. The position also establishes scalable program mechanisms and operating rhythms, communicates program status and risks to executive and cross-functional stakeholders, and collaborates with Product leadership to connect product roadmaps with programs spanning multiple product engineering teams.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of experience in technical program management, engineering program management, or a related role within software, infrastructure, or platform organizations.
  • At least 15 years of experience in the technology industry.
  • Proven track record leading large, ambiguous, multi-team programs with significant cross-functional dependencies and measurable business or platform impact.
  • Strong technical fluency and ability to engage credibly with engineering leaders and teams on architecture, tradeoffs, delivery risks, and execution plans.
  • Demonstrated strength in structuring programs, driving decision-making, and solving complex problems in fast-paced, evolving environments.
  • Experience building alignment across senior stakeholders and improving communication, governance, and execution across interdependent teams.
  • Bias for action and root-cause problem solving, with experience actively unblocking delivery rather than focusing only on administrative tracking or Jira hygiene.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to synthesize technical complexity into clear executive summaries and trade-off matrices.
  • Expertise in establishing objective metrics to govern program success; examples include MetricSense, Datadog dashboards, SLO attainment, and cost trends.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Must be authorized to receive and access commodities and technologies controlled under U.S. Export Administration Regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Background as a Software Engineer, Systems/Delivery Architect, or Technical Product Manager before transitioning into TPM leadership.
  • Experience driving AI-assisted developer workflow tooling or agentic automation in developer environments.

Responsibilities

  • Translate organizational priorities into executable program roadmaps with measurable business outcomes in partnership with the VP of Platform Services and Engineering Managers.
  • Lead complex, cross-functional technical programs across Platform Services Engineering from definition and planning through delivery and adoption.
  • Coordinate goals, milestones, dependencies, decisions, and execution risks across engineering and partner teams.
  • Build program mechanisms, including roadmap reviews, status reporting, escalation paths, and success metrics, to improve visibility and accountability.
  • Identify systemic issues and execution gaps early and guide teams toward practical, durable solutions.
  • Influence technical and business stakeholders to make informed tradeoff decisions and keep strategic initiatives moving forward.
  • Mentor others in program management practices and help raise execution standards across the engineering organization.
  • Drive Monthly and Quarterly Business Reviews, executive reporting, and cross-organizational communications for executive leadership, product partners, and engineering leads.
  • Collaborate with Product leadership to map product roadmaps into programs that interface with multiple product engineering teams.
  • Implement dynamic program tracking frameworks, such as Gantt charts or single-source-of-truth models, that flag delivery risks weeks in advance.
