About The Position

Modular, a Qualcomm company, is building modular AI infrastructure and software to simplify AI development and deployment. The Technical Program Manager will work at the center of the engineering organization, connecting Platform Engineering with the compiler, runtime, kernel, cloud, and product teams that depend on it. Platform Engineering owns the build, test, and deployment systems used to ship MAX and Mojo, while also helping teams build and ship code faster with AI. This is a hands-on, technical role focused on turning goals such as faster builds, reliable tests, and shorter CI feedback loops into delivered work. The role partners with engineering and product leaders to structure planning, tracking, and communication; participates in design discussions; helps teams create realistic plans; surfaces risks early; and influences engineering decisions across the organization. Candidates may work from the Los Altos, California office or remotely from home. New-hire onboarding is conducted in person in Los Altos. Candidates based in or open to relocating to the San Francisco Bay Area are welcome. Travel two to four times per year is expected.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience.
  • Eight years of experience in technical program management, engineering management, or infrastructure engineering.
  • Experience driving programs for platform or developer-infrastructure teams at scale, such as build systems, CI/CD pipelines, test infrastructure, or release tooling.
  • Experience leading cross-functional programs involving multiple teams and dependencies, from scoping and planning through delivery.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical work to audiences with varying levels of technical familiarity.
  • Minimum qualifications also specify a bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field and at least four years of Program Management or related work experience.
  • Advanced degrees in a relevant field may substitute for up to two years of work experience: a Master’s degree for one year and a Doctorate for two years.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building or operating release and deployment infrastructure, including continuous deployment.
  • Ability to diagnose and improve build performance, test reliability, and pipeline throughput.
  • Experience working with compiler, systems software, or AI/ML infrastructure teams.
  • Experience setting planning and reporting cadences for an engineering organization.
  • Excellent written communication skills and the ability to make technical detail clear to people outside the work.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with engineering and product leaders to scope projects, set milestones, and sequence work based on dependencies and available staffing.
  • Set and run planning, status-reporting, and risk-review cadences across the organization.
  • Drive execution on build, release, and continuous deployment infrastructure for MAX, Mojo, and Cloud, shortening the path from merge to production and making rollouts and rollbacks safe and routine.
  • Define and report developer-experience health metrics, including build time, CI queue time, test flakiness, and time to merge, and use them to prioritize investments.
  • Partner with Security on build and release path integrity, including CI secrets handling, runner and artifact isolation, signing and provenance, and deploy-path access control.
  • Coordinate rollouts and migrations across teams with clear communication, rollback plans, and adoption tracking.
  • Lead follow-through after developer-infrastructure incidents, drive cross-team root-cause analysis, and ensure action items are completed.
