Technical Program Manager, Platform Engineering

Modular•United States,
•$143,400 - $277,200

About The Position

Platform Engineering builds, tests, and deploys the systems that ship MAX and Mojo and enables teams to build and ship code faster with AI. This hands-on, technical role works between Platform Engineering and the compiler, runtime, kernel, cloud, and product teams that depend on it. The Technical Program Manager turns goals such as faster builds, reliable tests, and shorter CI feedback loops into delivered work. Working with engineering and product leaders, the role brings structure to planning, tracking, and communication. It contributes to design discussions, helps teams create realistic plans, surfaces risks early, and shapes engineering decisions across the organization. Candidates based in the United States may work remotely or from the Los Altos, California office. New-hire onboarding is conducted in person at the Los Altos office. Travel for team onsites and local meetups is expected 2–4 times per year.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience.
  • The role description states 8 years of experience in technical program management, engineering management, or infrastructure engineering.
  • Experience driving programs for platform or developer infrastructure teams at scale, such as build systems, CI/CD pipelines, test infrastructure, or release tooling.
  • Experience leading cross-functional programs involving multiple teams and dependencies, from scoping and planning through delivery.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical work to varied audiences.
  • Minimum qualifications specify a bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum qualifications specify 4+ years of Program Management or related work experience; a relevant advanced degree may substitute for up to two years of work experience (Master’s = one year; Doctorate = two years).

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to diagnose and improve build performance, test reliability, and pipeline throughput.
  • Experience working with compiler, systems software, or AI/ML infrastructure teams.
  • Experience setting the planning and reporting cadence for an engineering organization.
  • Excellent written communication skills and the ability to make technical details clear to people outside the work.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with engineering and product leaders to scope projects, set milestones, and sequence work according to dependencies and available staffing.
  • Establish and run the cadence for planning, status reporting, and risk review across the organization.
  • Drive execution on build, release, and continuous deployment infrastructure for MAX, Mojo, and Cloud, shortening the path from merge to production and keeping rollouts and rollbacks safe and routine.
  • Define and report developer-experience health metrics, including build time, CI queue time, test flakiness, and time to merge, and use them to prioritize investments.
  • Partner with Security on build and release path integrity, including secrets handling in CI, runner and artifact isolation, signing and provenance, and deploy-path access control.
  • Coordinate rollouts and migrations across teams with clear communication, rollback plans, and adoption tracking.
  • Strengthen developer-infrastructure reliability by following through after incidents, driving cross-team root-cause analysis, and ensuring action items are completed.

Benefits

  • Benefits may include comprehensive healthcare coverage, retirement and savings programs, employee stock purchase opportunities, paid time off, wellbeing resources, family support programs, and learning and development opportunities. Specific packages may vary by location.
  • Competitive compensation packages, including RSU grants; total compensation also includes an annual target bonus, equity, and benefits.
  • Regular team onsites and local meetups.
