About The Position

This job advertisement is to fill an existing vacancy for a Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator, and Lab Demonstrator for CHYS 1F90 - Introduction to Child and Youth Studies for the Fall/Winter term. The position is within the CUPE4207-1 Employee Group. Compensation will be based on the employee's qualifications, with an undergraduate rate of $23.30 per hour and a graduate rate of $36.67 per hour, effective September 1, 2026. Additional duties will be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2nd Year complete in the CHYS BA or CHYS BA/BEd program, or be entering and/or continuing in the CHYS MA or CHYS PhD program.
  • Must have previously completed CHYS 1F90 or equivalent, and obtained 80% or higher.
  • Must have effective communication skills including the ability to explain subject material to students.
  • Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines.
  • Provide, if available, an evaluation of successful previous experience as a Teaching Assistant or Marker-Grader.
  • For courses taken at Brock, identify the course (i.e., XXXX 3P00). For courses taken elsewhere provide a copy of your transcript, highlight the course and provide the course description. Failure to provide the required documentation to support the request for consideration of equivalency will result in an incomplete application.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous successful experience as a Teaching Assistant for CHYS 1F90 will be considered as equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Perform duties and responsibilities in accordance with Article 22 of the CUPE Local 4207, Unit 1, Collective Agreement, including scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time (preparation of seminar material, student consultation, marking or grading, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration).
  • Perform marker-grader responsibilities, including marking assignments, term projects, case reports, midterms, progress exams, and/or final exams, and providing written feedback to students.
  • Attend in-person orientation meetings in September and January, bi-monthly TA meetings, and one of the three in-person lecture times each week.
  • Be available for a period of intensive on-campus marking immediately following the mid-term and final exams.
  • Be available to meet with instructors as necessary, between the hours of 9 AM and 5 PM.
