About The Position

This job advertisement is to fill an existing vacancy for a Teaching Assistant for the PSYC 2P01 course for the Fall/Winter 2024-2025 academic term. The position involves supporting the instructor in delivering the course, grading assignments, holding office hours, and assisting students with course material. Duties and responsibilities are in accordance with Article 22 of the Collective Agreement. The position runs from September 1, 2024, to April 30, 2025, with an appointment of 60 hours per half-credit course. Requirements

  • Must have completed or be enrolled in PSYC 5Y51/52/61/62/71/72 or PSYC 7Y51/52/53/61/62/63/71/72/73, or 5F01, within the previous five years; OR Minimum 3rd Year complete and currently enrolled in a PSYC BA or BSc program, with an average of at least 85; and have taken this course within the previous five years, and achieved a grade of at least 80. Previous successful experience as a TA in this course in an academic setting will be considered as equivalent.
  • Must demonstrate a clear and thorough understanding of all aspects of the course to clearly explain all course topics
  • Must have strong writing and editing skills and a thorough understanding of APA writing style
  • Must have excellent oral communication skills
  • Must have the interpersonal qualities to be supportive of students and effective in leading group discussion
  • Must have strong organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to keep accurate records/manage data
  • Must have excellent time management skills in order to mark student work within a constrained turn-around time
  • Must be adept at providing feedback to students in a constructive manner
  • Must be able to and willing to present material/conduct seminars remotely
  • Must be able and willing to maintain contact with the instructor, fellow teaching assistants and enrolled students by email and audio-video conferencing and conduct seminars and office hours via audio-video conferencing

Responsibilities

  • Attending TA meetings as scheduled
  • Grading assignments and discussion forum posts in a timely manner, and providing supportive and instructive written feedback
  • Holding office hours and answering student emails outside of scheduled student contact time
  • Maintaining accurate records
  • Helping students overcome difficulties that they may encounter when dealing with course material
  • Other related duties as assigned by the Instructor
