About The Position

This job advertisement is to fill an existing vacancy for a Teaching Assistant position for the course PSYC 5F01, Research Methods & Data Analysis, for the Fall/Winter D1 term. The nominal workload for this position is 120 hours. Duties and responsibilities will be in accordance with Article 22 of the Collective Agreement and may include attending assigned seminars, labs or tutorials, TA meetings, preparation of seminar materials, proctoring and grading assignments, tests and examinations, holding office hours, answering student emails, maintaining accurate records, and helping students overcome difficulties with course material. Other related duties may be assigned by the Instructor. Compensation for Teaching Assistant positions is based on the employee's qualifications, with different rates for those holding a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree versus those who do not. Additional duties will be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate.

Requirements

  • Must have completed PSYC 5F01 with a grade of at least 90.
  • Must have high level of competence conducting statistical analyses using SPSS and R (RStudio).
  • Must demonstrate a clear and thorough understanding of all aspects of the course to clearly explain all course topics.
  • Must have strong writing and editing skills, and a thorough understanding of APA writing style.
  • Must have excellent oral communication skills.
  • Must have the interpersonal qualities to be supportive of students and effective in leading group discussion.
  • Must have strong organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to keep accurate records/manage data.
  • Must have excellent time management skills in order to cover the required course material during the available seminar/lab or tutorial time.
  • Must be adept at providing feedback to students in a constructive manner.

Responsibilities

  • Attending assigned seminars, labs or tutorials on a weekly basis
  • Attending TA meetings as scheduled
  • Preparation of seminar materials
  • Proctoring and grading assignments, tests and examinations in a timely manner, and providing supportive and instructive written feedback
  • Holding office hours and answering student emails outside of scheduled student contact time
  • Maintaining accurate records
  • Helping students overcome difficulties that they may encounter when dealing with course material
  • Other related duties as assigned by the Instructor
