About The Position

This Teaching Assistant (TA) position is for the Introduction to Business Management course (ADM 1300) during the Fall 2026 semester. The role involves supporting students through discussion groups, grading, and other course-related duties. The TA will work under the supervision of Professor Dana Hyde and the Course Coordinator. The position requires a strong understanding of business management principles, excellent communication skills, and the ability to lead discussions and provide feedback. The TA must be located in Ottawa for the entire duration of the course.

Requirements

  • Minimum C.G.P.A. of 7.0 (8.0 preferred).
  • Minimum grade of A- in ADM 1300 or its equivalent.
  • Minimum of two years' business education at the post-secondary level, emphasizing management, business ownership, finance, and accounting.
  • Thorough working knowledge of solving a business case.
  • Experience in analyzing business cases.
  • Ability to integrate and apply business and management concepts practically, using case studies.
  • Comfortable and confident in leading and interacting with a class of first-year students.
  • Constructive, helpful, and inclusive attitude.
  • Understand and read in English and write and teach in English with confidence at a very high level of fluency.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Good understanding of basic Canadian accounting and financial management analysis skills.
  • Successful completion and comprehension of an introductory level business management course in a Canadian environment.
  • Good knowledge of current business issues and approaches to management.
  • Must be located in Ottawa for the entire duration of the course, including grading.
  • Access to a computer, internet, microphone, and webcam.
  • All DGDs with students are in person.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with online course delivery.
  • Experience with online videoconferencing environment (e.g., Microsoft Teams).
  • Preference given to candidates enrolled in Telfer programs.
  • Preference given to higher grades.
  • Preference given to candidates who have previously been teaching assistants or markers for ADM1300 (or equivalent).
  • Preference given to students who have participated in projects, contests, and competitions at the university level.

Responsibilities

  • Attending and participating in regular teaching assistant meetings, including team-building exercises.
  • Conducting weekly seminars and leading discussions on relevant business topics.
  • Demonstrating effective business presentation skills and leading the case method approach.
  • Addressing teaching problems and handling exercises.
  • Evaluating group case presentations and providing timely written feedback.
  • Evaluating and providing written feedback on weekly case executive summaries.
  • Leading all discussions in the DGD (Discussion Group).
  • Bringing questions, concerns, or issues to the Course Coordinator and Course Professor.
  • Proctoring exams.
