About The Position

The Switchboard Operator works under direct supervision and established protocols at Onslow Memorial Hospital. The role operates telecommunications and specialized equipment to answer incoming calls, support physician answering services, use paging and public-address systems, and monitor fire alarm circuits, equipment failures, and security breaches. Entering, accessing, and retrieving data is a significant part of the job.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• At least one year of customer service experience in telecommunications customer service supporting a high call volume.
• One or more years of experience in PBX operations and general office practices.
• Familiarity with telephone communications techniques and basic computer software.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel, and Outlook.
• Ability to use a fax machine, copier, and printer.

Responsibilities

• Operate physician answering services and telecommunications equipment to answer incoming calls.
• Operate the paging system and public-address system.
• Monitor fire alarm circuits and other specialized circuits.
• Monitor equipment failures and security breaches.
• Enter, access, and retrieve data.
