About The Position

The Switchboard Operator operates the Mitel switchboard console, answering and routing calls from inside and outside the hospital. The role also handles overhead and individual paging through multiple paging systems, responds to emergency-line calls, and supports hospital communications and related desk coverage.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Nice To Haves

Basic computer operation and software application literacy strongly preferred.
Excellent telephone etiquette strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Operate the Mitel switchboard console to connect, hold, and transfer incoming telephone calls.
Monitor and answer calls received through the hospital emergency line, understand organizational emergency codes, and initiate overhead paging and other procedures when requested.
Connect callers to police, ambulance, or 9-1-1 when emergencies are reported.
Page physicians and other staff using Smartpager, pocket pagers, and overhead paging.
Connect callers to after-hours staff on call.
Place telephone calls for patients or arrange conference calls as requested.
Monitor hospital and clinic alarm systems to help ensure secure conditions are maintained.
Monitor weather radio and complete overhead paging procedures for local weather alerts.
Disperse incoming mail.
Cover the Hostess desk during hours when volunteers are unavailable.
