About The Position

The Switchboard Operator greets and welcomes patients and the general public who call the facility, providing courteous service in accordance with organizational policies and guidelines. The operator provides information and direction to callers and others, and follows hospital procedures for routine and emergency communications. This includes placing phone calls and making overhead public-address announcements, pages, and other electronic notifications. Operators also complete related tasks and projects as directed. The Communication Center operates 24 hours a day, and operators must be prepared to work any shift.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Two years of customer service experience.
• Computer keyboarding and general telephone knowledge.
• High concentration, memory retention, and attention to detail.
• Competency in spoken communication, interaction and versatility, decision-making and problem-solving, coping, commitment to task, tolerance of ambiguity, and decisiveness.
• Ability to work both with a team and independently.
• Ability to clearly speak, write, and understand English and to be understood when speaking English.
• Preparedness to work any shift, as the Communication Center operates 24 hours a day.

Nice To Haves

• Vocational training in an office curriculum.
• One year of experience as a telephone operator or in a similar role.
• Regular and acceptable attendance.
• Availability to work weekends or overtime, as may be required.
