About The Position

The Utica City School District is seeking qualified candidates for its Youth Sports Summer Program, specifically for the Swimming component. This program is designed to keep students active and safe during the summer months, supporting the district's mission to educate the whole child. It aims to address challenges faced by urban communities, such as limited access to safe recreational outlets and a lack of structured programs, by offering a diverse range of sports. The program promotes health and fitness, provides a safe and structured alternative to unsupervised summer time, builds critical life skills and character, encourages academic and career exploration through sports-related components, increases equity and opportunity by offering less traditionally accessible sports, and strengthens community and family ties through events and partnerships.

Requirements

NYS Coaching Certification
Interscholastic coaching experience in swimming
CPR/FA for coaches or responding to emergencies/AED certification
Concussion Management Certification
Fingerprint Clearance

Responsibilities

Coach swimming to students in grades 4-12.
Ensure student wellness, safety, and engagement during the summer program.
Support the district's mission to educate the whole child.
Provide a safe and structured environment for students.
Instill life skills such as discipline, responsibility, perseverance, and resilience through swimming.
Potentially integrate academic components related to sports science and kinesiology.
Participate in end-of-session events such as swim meets.
Serve as a positive adult mentor and coach.
