Sweet Shop Clerk
About The Position
The Sweet Shop Clerk works in Hy-Vee’s Bakery Department, keeping the Sweet Shop stocked with fresh, attractively presented products while providing friendly, attentive customer service. The role includes taking bakery orders, answering product questions, preparing and replenishing products, and helping maintain product freshness and a clean, sanitary work area. Clerks may also handle register transactions, product receiving and storage, pricing and ordering, deliveries, and other store tasks as needed. Training is provided; no education or prior experience is required. Night and weekend shifts are required.
Requirements
- Follow detailed written or verbal instructions and work through tasks involving a few concrete variables.
- Perform simple addition and subtraction, copy figures, and count and record accurately.
- Understand and follow verbal or demonstrated directions and communicate supply needs orally or in writing.
- Work effectively as part of a team to provide a positive customer experience.
- Frequently stand and walk throughout the shift; perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending.
- Night and weekend shifts are required.
- Employment is contingent upon successfully completing a pre-employment drug screen.
Responsibilities
- Greet customers and provide prompt, friendly service.
- Take customer orders at the bakery counter and answer product questions using product knowledge.
- Review daily orders, anticipate product needs, and prepare, finish, and replenish products as necessary.
- Retrieve products from the cooler or freezer for baking and ensure an adequate food supply is ready.
- Review food freshness and appearance and maintain a clean, sanitary work area.
- Check in and put away products and review invoices as needed.
- Operate the department register, receive payments, and make change where applicable.
- Remove trash promptly and wash dishes as necessary.
- Price and order products and deliver orders as needed.
- Work with co-workers to support customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
- Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as assigned.
- Follow personal hygiene and dress standards, Hy-Vee policies, and store guidelines.
- Report to work as scheduled and on time.
