About The Position

The Sweet Shop Clerk works in Hy-Vee’s bakery, keeping the Sweet Shop stocked with fresh, attractively presented products while providing friendly and attentive customer service. The role includes taking bakery-counter orders, answering customer questions, preparing and replenishing products, maintaining food freshness and sanitation, and completing department and store tasks. Training is provided; no education or experience is required.

Requirements

Follow detailed written or verbal instructions and complete tasks involving a few concrete variables.
Perform simple addition and subtraction, copy figures, and count and record accurately.
Understand and follow verbal or demonstrated directions and communicate supply needs orally or in writing.
Work effectively as part of a team to deliver a positive customer experience.
Frequently stand and walk throughout shifts in sales, food service, or delivery areas.
Perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning and sanitation duties.
Complete a pre-employment drug screen.

Responsibilities

Greet customers and provide prompt, friendly service, making interactions positive.
Take bakery-counter orders and answer questions about products using product knowledge.
Review daily orders, anticipate product needs, and prepare, finish, and replenish products.
Pull products from the cooler or freezer to prepare for baking and ensure adequate food supplies are available.
Check food freshness and appearance and maintain a clean, sanitary work area.
Receive and put away products and review invoices as needed.
Operate the department register, receive payments, and make change where applicable.
Remove trash promptly and wash dishes as needed.
Price and order products and deliver orders as needed.
Work with co-workers as a team to support customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as assigned.
Follow personal hygiene and dress standards, Hy-Vee policies, and store guidelines.
Report to work as scheduled and on time.
