Sweet Shop Clerk
About The Position
The Sweet Shop Clerk works in the bakery department to stock the Sweet Shop with fresh, attractively presented products and provide friendly, attentive customer service. The role includes taking bakery-counter orders, answering product questions, preparing and replenishing products, and helping maintain an adequate supply of food. Clerks also support department operations by handling deliveries and product orders, checking invoices, operating the register, and keeping the work area clean and sanitary. Training is provided; no education or experience is required. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.
Requirements
- Follow detailed written or verbal instructions and complete tasks involving a few concrete variables.
- Perform simple addition and subtraction, copy figures, and count and record accurately.
- Understand and follow verbal or demonstrated directions.
- Communicate supply needs orally or in writing.
- Work effectively as part of a team to deliver a positive customer experience.
- No education or experience requirements; training is provided.
- Successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen.
Responsibilities
- Provide prompt, friendly customer service and create positive customer interactions.
- Take customer orders at the bakery counter and answer questions about products.
- Review daily orders, anticipate product needs, and prepare, finish, and replenish products as necessary.
- Pull product from the cooler or freezer to prepare for baking and ensure adequate food supplies are ready.
- Review food freshness and appearance, and maintain a clean, sanitary work area.
- Check in and put away products, and review invoices as needed.
- Operate the department register, receive payments, and make change where applicable.
- Remove trash and wash dishes as necessary.
- Price and order products and deliver orders as needed.
- Work as a team with co-workers to support customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
- Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as assigned.
- Follow personal hygiene and dress standards, Hy-Vee policies, and store guidelines.
- Report to work as scheduled and on time.
