About The Position

The Sweet Shop Clerk works in Hy-Vee’s bakery department, keeping the Sweet Shop stocked with fresh, attractively presented products while providing friendly, attentive customer service. The role includes taking bakery-counter orders, answering product questions, preparing and replenishing products, and helping maintain a clean, sanitary, and well-run department. Training is provided; no education or experience is required.

Requirements

Follow detailed written or verbal instructions and work through tasks involving a few concrete variables.
Perform simple addition and subtraction, copy figures, and count and record accurately.
Understand and follow verbal or demonstrated directions.
Communicate supply needs orally or in writing.
Work effectively as part of a team.
No education or experience requirements; training is provided.
Frequently stand and walk throughout a shift.
Where applicable, safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparation.
Where applicable, work around heat- and burn-related hazards from cooking, baking, or grilling equipment.
Where applicable, operate a delivery vehicle in accordance with applicable DOT standards.
Perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning and sanitation duties.

Responsibilities

Greet customers and provide prompt, friendly service.
Take customer orders at the bakery counter and answer questions about products.
Review daily orders, anticipate product needs, and prepare, finish, and replenish products as needed.
Pull products from coolers or freezers for baking and ensure an adequate food supply is available.
Check food freshness and appearance and maintain a clean, sanitary work area.
Receive and put away products and review invoices as needed.
Operate the department register, receive payments, and make change where applicable.
Remove trash and wash dishes as needed.
Price and order products and deliver orders as needed.
Work with co-workers to support customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as assigned.
Follow personal hygiene and dress standards, Hy-Vee policies, and store guidelines.
Report to work as scheduled and on time.
