AIG is seeking Summer Interns for the Underwriting department to play a part in transforming how customers manage risk, with opportunities to learn and grow skills and experience as a valued member of the team. The Underwriting teams help businesses navigate complex risks by delivering innovative insurance and risk management solutions. Underwriters work with brokers, clients, and internal partners to evaluate risk, analyze financial and exposure information, and develop tailored solutions. As an Underwriter, interns will build expertise in risk assessment, financial analysis, and relationship management, gaining exposure to the commercial insurance industry. They will collaborate with experienced professionals and cross-functional partners to make informed, data-driven decisions and solve complex business challenges. Opportunities are available across various underwriting businesses, including Financial Lines, Retail Property, Retail Casualty, Lexington Property, Lexington Casualty, Alternative Channels, Distribution, and Captive Solutions, each offering specialized knowledge and a strong foundation for a career in commercial insurance. AIG's Summer Interns are immersed in the day-to-day operations of a fast-moving, global insurance company during a 9-week program, gaining hands-on experience and industry knowledge while working with leaders on dynamic projects. Interns join key business teams to gain core technical knowledge and professional skills in a diverse environment. The program includes instructor-led masterclasses, sessions with senior leaders, and opportunities to build connections through mentoring circles, networking events, and volunteering. Following the internship, interns may be considered for a role in the location where they completed their internship, with the Analyst program beginning in July 2028.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree to be received no later than June 2028 (unofficial transcript required upon application).
  • Available for the complete Summer Internship Program from June 7 through August 6, 2027.
  • Summer Intern positions are in-person opportunities, requiring interns to work in the office at least four days per week.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively in a professional environment.
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively, manage multiple priorities, and adapt in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting the evaluation and analysis of risks to help determine appropriate coverage, terms, and pricing.
  • Reviewing underwriting submissions, financial information, loss history, exposure data, and other relevant materials.
  • Building relationships and communicating with brokers, clients, and internal business partners.
  • Assisting with the preparation of quotes, proposals, renewals, and other underwriting documentation.
  • Learning to apply underwriting guidelines, appetite, and risk selection strategies.
  • Partnering with experienced underwriters and cross-functional teams such as Claims, Actuarial, Risk Engineering, and Analytics.
  • Using data and analytical tools to support underwriting decisions.
  • Developing knowledge of AIG’s products, industry trends, market conditions, and the specific business area in which they’re placed.
  • Supporting portfolio management and helping identify opportunities for profitable growth.
