About The Position

Kokua Education is hiring substitute teachers for K-12 schools in Elsa and the surrounding Rio Grande Valley area for the 2026-27 school year. Substitute teachers can set their own schedules and work up to five days per week in assignments they find appealing. They help maintain classroom learning and serve as positive role models, with assignments potentially including lunch or recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and proctoring during testing season. The role offers pay of up to $145 per day, paid weekly, and is paid via W-2. Kokua states that applicants may receive an offer within one week and that substitute teaching can provide a path to permanent roles at high-performing K-12 schools. Support is available daily from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Requirements

At least one year of experience working with children in any setting, such as a classroom, tutoring, or coaching.
At least 48 college credit hours completed.
Confidence managing a classroom of students.
Willingness to take on additional school duties where needed.
Pass state and federal background checks; costs are reimbursed after 10 assignments.
