About The Position

Kokua Education is hiring substitute teachers for the 2026–27 school year in Kyle, Buda, Bluff Springs, and the surrounding Austin area. Substitute teachers fill classroom assignments at K–12 schools, following lesson plans and serving as positive role models who support students’ learning and confidence. Applicants can set their own schedule and work up to five days per week in assignments they are interested in. Assignments may also involve lunch and recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and test proctoring. Kokua offers support daily from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and describes substitute teaching as a potential path toward permanent roles at high-performing K–12 schools.

Requirements

• At least one year of experience working with children in any setting, such as a classroom, tutoring, or coaching.
• At least 48 completed college credit hours.
• Confidence managing a classroom of students.
• Willingness to take on other school duties as needed.
• Pass state and federal background checks; costs are reimbursed after 10 assignments.
• Believe every child has a unique and powerful gift to share with the world.

Responsibilities

• Cover classroom assignments at K–12 schools and support students’ learning.
• Manage a classroom of students.
• Step in where needed, including lunch and recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and proctoring during testing season.
• Serve as a positive role model for students.

Benefits

• Earn up to $200 per day, with weekly pay.
• Daily rates are $129 for applicants with some college (48 or more credits) or an associate degree, $150 for applicants with a bachelor’s degree or higher, and $200 for long-term assignments at all qualification levels.
