About The Position

Kokua Education is hiring substitute teachers for the 2026–27 school year in Golden Acres and the surrounding Houston area. Substitute teachers serve as positive role models, support students’ learning, and fill in for classroom teachers at K–12 schools. Teachers choose their schedules and can work up to five days per week in assignments they are most excited about. Assignments may include daily or long-term positions, as well as lunch and recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and test proctoring. The role can provide a path to permanent positions at high-performing K–12 schools. Kokua offers support daily from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and reimburses background-check costs after 10 assignments.

Requirements

• At least one year of experience working with children in any setting, such as a classroom, tutoring, or coaching.
• At least 48 completed college credit hours.
• Confidence managing a classroom of students.
• Willingness to step in where needed, including supervision, tutoring, and test proctoring.
• Pass state and federal background checks; costs are reimbursed after 10 assignments.
• Believe that every child has a unique and powerful gift to share with the world.
• Include relevant experience working with students on the resume.

Responsibilities
