About The Position

Kokua Education is hiring substitute teachers to serve K-12 schools in Kyle, Buda, and the surrounding Austin and San Marcos areas for the 2026-27 school year. Substitute teachers can choose assignments and locations, work up to five days per week, and receive the schedule before accepting each assignment. Start and end times vary by school; most assignments run from approximately 7:00–8:00 AM to 3:45–4:45 PM. Flexibility for schools’ earlier or later needs is helpful.

Substitute teachers lead classrooms and help create a safe, supportive learning environment. They may also support their campus throughout the school day with duties such as lunch and recess supervision, hall and bathroom monitoring, tutoring, and test proctoring. Kokua offers weekly pay, support from its team every day from 6 AM to 8 PM, and the opportunity to gain a foothold for full-time positions at K-12 schools. Out-of-pocket costs are reimbursed after 10 teaching assignments.

Requirements

• At least 1 year of experience working with students in any setting, such as a classroom, tutoring, coaching, or camps.
• At least 48 college credit hours.
• Confidence managing a classroom of students.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
• Ability to pass state and federal background checks.
• Strong belief that every child has a unique and powerful gift to share with the world.
