About The Position

Kokua Education is hiring elementary substitute teachers in Austin, Texas, for the 2026–27 school year. Substitute teachers work in K–12 schools across the Austin area, cover classroom assignments, and serve as positive role models who encourage students’ love of learning. Teachers can set their own schedules and work up to five days per week in assignments they are most excited about. Assignments may also involve lunch and recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and test proctoring. The position offers a path to permanent roles at high-performing K–12 schools, and Kokua provides support daily from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Pay is up to $200 per day, paid weekly: $129 per day for candidates with at least 48 college credits or an associate degree, $150 per day for candidates with a bachelor’s degree or higher, and $200 per day for long-term assignments at all qualification levels. Employment is paid via W-2. The company states that applicants can receive an offer within one week of applying. Background-check costs are reimbursed after 10 assignments.

Requirements

At least one year of experience working with children in any setting, such as a classroom, tutoring, or coaching.
At least 48 completed college credit hours.
Confidence managing a classroom of students.
Willingness to step in where needed, including supervision, tutoring, and test proctoring.
Ability to pass state and federal background checks.
