About The Position

Kokua is hiring substitute teachers for K-12 schools in Kyle, Buda, and the surrounding Austin and San Marcos areas for the 2026–27 school year. Substitute teachers lead classrooms and help create safe, supportive learning environments. They may also support campus needs throughout the school day, including lunch and recess supervision, hall and bathroom monitoring, tutoring, and test proctoring.

Assignments and locations are selected by the substitute teacher. Scheduling is flexible, with opportunities to work up to five days per week. School start and end times vary; most assignments start between 7:00 and 8:00 AM and end between 3:45 and 4:45 PM. Schools may have earlier or later needs, and the schedule is provided before an assignment is accepted.

Pay is issued weekly. The posting lists a rate of $150 per day for substitutes with bachelor’s, master’s, or professional degrees, and $129 per day for substitutes with a high school diploma or GED, 48 or more college credits, or an associate degree. Long-term assignments pay $200 per day. Kokua also describes a quick hiring process, W-2 employment, access to a support team from 6 AM to 8 PM daily, and reimbursement of out-of-pocket costs after 10 teaching assignments.

Requirements

• At least 1 year of experience working with students in any setting, such as a classroom, tutoring, coaching, or camps.
• At least 48 college credit hours.
• Confidence managing a classroom of students.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
• Ability to pass state and federal background checks.
• A strong belief that every child has a unique and powerful gift to share.
