Elementary Substitute Teacher - Austin, TX
About The Position
Kokua Education is hiring elementary substitute teachers in Austin, Texas, for the 2026–27 school year. Substitute teachers cover classroom assignments at K–12 schools, help students stay engaged in learning, and serve as positive role models in their communities. Teachers can choose assignments that interest them and set their own schedule, working up to five days per week. The position may also involve lunch and recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, or proctoring during testing season. Kokua provides daily support from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and offers a potential path to permanent roles at high-performing K–12 schools. Requirements
- At least one year of experience working with children in any setting, such as a classroom, tutoring, or coaching.
- At least 48 college credit hours completed.
- Confidence managing a classroom of students.
- Willingness to step in where needed, including supervision, tutoring, and testing support.
- Pass state and federal background checks; the costs are reimbursed after 10 assignments.
- Believe that every child has a unique and powerful gift to share with the world.
Responsibilities

Benefits
- Earn up to $200 per day, paid weekly.
- Daily pay is $129 for candidates with some college (48+ credits) or an associate degree, and $150 for candidates with a bachelor’s degree or higher.
- Long-term assignments pay $200 per day at all qualification levels.
