About The Position

Kokua Education is hiring part-time substitute teachers in Weslaco and the surrounding Rio Grande Valley area for the 2026–27 school year. Substitute teachers work in K–12 schools, stepping in where needed to support students and school staff. They may supervise lunch and recess, monitor hallways, tutor, and proctor during testing season, in addition to covering classroom lesson plans.

Substitute teachers set their own schedules and can work up to five days per week, choosing teaching assignments that interest them. The role offers an opportunity to build experience and potentially pursue permanent roles at high-performing K–12 schools. Kokua provides support daily from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. The position pays up to $145 per day, paid weekly, with rates varying by education level. Employees are paid via W-2. Background-check costs are reimbursed after 10 assignments.

Requirements

• At least one year of experience working with children in any setting, such as a classroom, tutoring, or coaching.
• At least 48 college credit hours completed.
• Confidence managing a classroom of students.
• Willingness to step in where needed, including lunch/recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and testing proctoring.
• Pass state and federal background checks.
• Believe every child has a unique and powerful gift to share with the world.
