About The Position

Kokua Education is hiring part-time substitute teachers for K–12 schools in the Rio Grande Valley, including Harlingen, Texas, for the 2026–27 school year. Substitute teachers provide classroom coverage and serve as positive role models who encourage students’ interest in learning. The position offers schedule flexibility, with assignments available up to five days per week at schools across the area. Teachers may also support students and school staff through lunch and recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and test proctoring. Kokua offers daily support from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and describes the role as a potential path to permanent positions at high-performing schools.

Requirements

At least one year of experience working with children in any setting, such as a classroom, tutoring, or coaching.
At least 48 college credit hours completed.
Confidence managing a classroom of students.
Willingness to step in where needed, including supervision, tutoring, and test proctoring.
Pass state and federal background checks; costs are reimbursed after 10 assignments.
Include relevant experience working with students on the resume for consideration.

Responsibilities

Teach and supervise students in K–12 classrooms when regular teachers are absent.
Manage a classroom of students and step in where needed.
