About The Position

Kokua Education is hiring substitute teachers to work in K-12 schools in the Windsor Hills, Dessau, and surrounding Austin area for the 2026-27 school year. Substitute teachers provide positive role models, support students’ learning, and help create encouraging classroom experiences. Assignments may include teaching, lunch and recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and proctoring during testing season. Substitute teachers set their own schedule and may work up to five days per week. Daily pay is up to $200, paid weekly: $129 for candidates with at least 48 college credits or an associate degree, $150 for candidates with a bachelor’s degree or higher, and $200 for long-term assignments at all qualification levels. Employees are paid via W-2. Kokua offers support from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, and the role may provide a path to permanent positions at high-performing K-12 schools. Background-check costs are reimbursed after 10 assignments.

Requirements

At least one year of experience working with children in any setting, such as a classroom, tutoring, or coaching.
At least 48 college credit hours completed.
Confidence managing a classroom of students.
Willingness to support duties such as lunch and recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and test proctoring.
Pass state and federal background checks.
Believe that every child has a unique and powerful gift to share with the world.

Responsibilities

Serve as a substitute teacher in K-12 schools across the Austin area.
Support classroom learning and manage a classroom of students.
Step in where needed, including lunch and recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and test proctoring.
Act as a positive role model and help students recognize their potential.
