About The Position

Kokua Education is hiring part-time substitute teachers in Cleveland and the surrounding Houston area for the 2026–27 school year. Substitute teachers work in K–12 schools, covering teaching assignments and helping students learn. They may set their own schedule and work up to five days per week, choosing assignments that interest them. The role may also include lunch or recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and test proctoring.

Kokua describes substitute teachers as positive role models who help students see what is possible and build a love of learning. The organization provides daily support from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and notes that the position can provide a path toward permanent roles at high-performing K–12 schools. Requirements

• At least one year of experience working with children in any setting, such as a classroom, tutoring, or coaching.
• At least 48 college credit hours completed.
• Confidence managing a classroom of students.
• Willingness to step in where needed, including supervision, tutoring, and testing proctoring.
• Pass state and federal background checks; costs are reimbursed after 10 assignments.
• Include relevant experience working with students on the resume for consideration.
