About The Position

Kokua Education is hiring part-time substitute teachers for the 2026–27 school year in the Rio Grande Valley area, including Harlingen, Texas. Substitute teachers support K–12 schools by stepping into classrooms, delivering lesson plans, and serving as positive role models who help students develop a love for learning. Applicants may begin the interview process immediately. Teachers set their own schedules and may work up to five days per week in assignments they are most interested in. Duties may also include lunch and recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and proctoring during testing season. Kokua offers support daily from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and a potential path to permanent roles at high-performing K–12 schools. Pay is up to $145 per day, paid weekly. Rates are up to $117 per day for candidates with a high school diploma or GED, at least 48 college credits, or an associate degree, and up to $145 per day for candidates with bachelor’s, master’s, or professional degrees. Employment is paid via W-2. Background-check costs are reimbursed after 10 assignments.

Requirements

At least one year of experience working with children in any setting, such as a classroom, tutoring, or coaching.
At least 48 completed college credit hours.
Confidence managing a classroom of students.
Willingness to take on other school duties as needed.
Ability to pass state and federal background checks.

Responsibilities

Teach and supervise K–12 students in classroom assignments.
