About The Position

Kokua Education is hiring substitute teachers for the 2026–27 school year in Golden Acres and the surrounding Houston area. Substitute teachers work in K–12 schools, covering lesson plans and serving as positive role models who encourage students’ love of learning. Teachers can choose assignments and set their own schedule, working up to five days per week. Assignments may include daily or long-term positions, and the role can provide a pathway to permanent positions at high-performing K–12 schools. Kokua offers support daily from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Requirements

• At least one year of experience working with children in any setting, such as a classroom, tutoring, or coaching.
• At least 48 completed college credit hours.
• Confidence managing a classroom of students.
• Willingness to assist where needed, including lunch/recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and testing proctoring.
• Pass state and federal background checks; costs are reimbursed after 10 assignments.
• Believe that every child has a unique and powerful gift to share with the world.
• Include relevant experience working with students on the resume.

Responsibilities

• Cover lesson plans and teach students in K–12 classrooms.
• Manage a classroom of students.
• Step in where needed, including lunch and recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and proctoring during testing season.
• Serve as a positive role model and help students recognize their potential.
• Choose teaching assignments and set a schedule of up to five workdays per week.
