Kokua Education is hiring substitute teachers for the 2026–27 school year in Elsa and the surrounding Rio Grande Valley area. Substitute teachers work in K–12 schools, support classroom learning, and serve as positive role models who help students recognize their potential. Teachers can set their own schedules and work up to five days per week in assignments that interest them. Assignments may also involve lunch or recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and test proctoring. Kokua provides support daily from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and describes the role as a potential path toward permanent positions at high-performing K–12 schools. Pay is up to $145 per day, paid weekly. The stated maximum is up to $117 per day for substitutes with a high school diploma/GED, 48 or more college credits, or an associate degree, and up to $145 per day for those with a bachelor’s, master’s, or professional degree. Employment is paid via W-2. State and federal background-check costs are reimbursed after 10 assignments. Applicants can begin the interview process immediately; Kokua says an offer may be received within one week of applying.
