About The Position

Kokua Education is hiring elementary substitute teachers in the Austin, Texas area for the 2026–27 school year. Substitute teachers work in K–12 schools, follow a schedule they choose, and may work up to five days per week. Assignments may include classroom teaching as well as lunch or recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and proctoring during testing season. The role is presented as an opportunity to serve as a positive role model and support students’ learning. Kokua offers daily support from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and describes the position as a potential path to permanent roles at high-performing K–12 schools.

Pay is up to $200 per day and is paid weekly via W-2. The stated rates are $129 per day for candidates with 48 or more college credits or an associate degree, $150 per day for candidates with a bachelor’s degree or higher, and $200 per day for long-term assignments at all qualification levels. Background-check costs are reimbursed after 10 assignments.

Requirements

• At least one year of experience working with children in any setting, such as a classroom, tutoring, or coaching.
• At least 48 completed college credit hours.
• Confidence managing a classroom of students.
• Willingness to assist where needed, including supervision, tutoring, and testing proctoring.
• Ability to pass state and federal background checks.
