About The Position

Kokua Education is hiring elementary substitute teachers in Austin, Texas, for the 2026–27 school year. Substitute teachers cover classroom assignments at K–12 schools and help create positive learning experiences as role models in their communities. Applicants can begin the interview process immediately. The role offers a flexible schedule, with the option to work up to five days per week in assignments of interest, and may provide a path to permanent roles at high-performing schools.

Pay is up to $200 per day, paid weekly: $129 per day for candidates with at least 48 college credits or an associate degree, $150 per day for candidates with a bachelor’s degree or higher, and $200 per day for long-term assignments at any qualification level. Employees are paid via W-2. Kokua provides support daily from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and reimburses background-check costs after 10 assignments.

Requirements

• At least one year of experience working with children in any setting, such as a classroom, tutoring, or coaching.
• At least 48 completed college credit hours.
• Confidence managing a classroom of students.
• Willingness to step in where needed, including supervision, tutoring, and test proctoring.
• Ability to pass state and federal background checks; costs are reimbursed after 10 assignments.
• Belief that every child has a unique and powerful gift to share with the world.

Responsibilities

• Cover teaching assignments in elementary classrooms at K–12 schools across the Austin area.
• Manage a classroom of students and support their learning.
• Step in where needed, including lunch and recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and proctoring during testing season.
• Serve as a positive role model and help students recognize their potential.
