About The Position

Kokua Education is hiring substitute teachers in Kyle, Buda, Bluff Springs, and the surrounding Austin area for the 2026–27 school year. Substitute teachers provide coverage in K–12 schools and serve as positive role models who help students engage with learning. Assignments may include classroom teaching as well as lunch and recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and test proctoring.

Teachers set their own schedules and can work up to five days per week in assignments that interest them. The role offers a path to potential permanent positions at high-performing K–12 schools. Kokua provides support daily from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Applicants can begin the interview process immediately, and the employer says offers are typically made within one week of applying.

Pay is up to $200 per day, paid weekly. The listed rates are $129 per day for candidates with at least 48 college credits or an associate degree, $150 per day for candidates with a bachelor’s degree or higher, and $200 per day for long-term assignments at all qualification levels. Employment is paid via W-2. Background-check costs are reimbursed after 10 assignments.

Requirements

• At least one year of experience working with children in any setting, such as a classroom, tutoring, or coaching.
• At least 48 completed college credit hours.
• Confidence managing a classroom of students.
• Willingness to step in where needed, including for supervision, tutoring, and testing duties.
• Pass state and federal background checks; costs are reimbursed after 10 assignments.
• Believe that every child has a unique gift to share with the world.

Responsibilities
