About The Position

Kokua Education is hiring part-time substitute teachers for the 2026–27 school year at K–12 schools across the Los Angeles area. Substitute teachers can set their own schedules and work up to five days per week in teaching assignments they are interested in. Daily positions pay $208 per day, and long-term positions pay $260 per day; pay is weekly and issued via W-2. The role may also provide a pathway to permanent positions at high-performing K–12 schools.

Substitute teachers serve as positive role models, support students’ learning, and step in where needed. Assignments may include classroom teaching, lunch and recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and proctoring during testing season. Kokua provides support daily from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Applicants who do not yet have a substitute permit may receive help with the process, with out-of-pocket costs reimbursed after they start teaching. Background-check costs are reimbursed after 10 assignments.

Requirements

• At least one year of experience working with children in any setting, such as a classroom, tutoring, or coaching.
• A bachelor’s degree or higher.
• A valid, unexpired California Teaching Credential (CTC) Substitute Permit or full California Teaching Credential.
• Confidence managing a classroom of students.
• Willingness to step in where needed, including supervision, tutoring, and test proctoring.
• Ability to pass state and federal background checks.
• Belief that every child has a unique and powerful gift to share with the world.

Responsibilities

• Teach or provide classroom coverage at K–12 schools in the Los Angeles area.
• Support students as a positive role model and help foster a love of learning.
• Be available to assist where needed, including lunch and recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and test proctoring.
• Manage a classroom of students.
